Miley Cyrus shows off independence & strength in "Flowers"
Miley Cyrus released “Flowers”, the first single from her upcoming album “Endless Summer Vacation”, and this new era of Miley is officially off to a fabulous start.
“Flowers” is a classic breakup anthem where Cyrus realizes she’s fine on her own. With every new album, Miley has released she has shown her fans her growing strength despite the many hurdles she’s faced, both in her personal and professional life. Given the song’s themes of independence and self-reliance, it’s certainly not a coincidence that Cyrus chose to release the song on ex Liam Hemsworth’s 33rd birthday (The petty person I am would have done it too).
The song samples Bruno Mars’ hit “When I Was Your Man” (which allegedly was Miley and Liam’s song) in both production and lyrics. Miley, however, switches the lyrics to more independent ones singing: “I can buy myself flowers / Write my name in the sand,” she sings over a groovy beat. “I can take myself dancing / And I can hold my own hand / Yeah, I can love me better than you can.” The song also lightly interlopes Gloria Gaynor’s timeless hit “I Will Survive” adding to the independent and resilient feel of the song. The song overall emanates power and strength and reveals another shade of Miley Cyrus’ color rainbow of talent.
Miley’s newfound happiness and independence can be heard in her voice as she impeccably hits notes with her powerful and raspy voice. The music video also reflects this feeling as she dances to her song in an empty mansion and looks absolutely beautiful in black lingerie and an oversized blazer.
Miley Cyrus’ “Endless Summer Vacation” album will be released on March 10.
