Latin Grammys moving from USA to Spain!
The Latin Grammys will officially leave the United States for the 2023 award ceremony and will be held for the first time in Spain.
The announcement was made by Juan Manuel Moreno, the president of the regional government of Andalusia, who was joined by the CEO of the Latin Grammys, Manuel Abud.
“Andalusia will host two major concerts this year, starting in September, and will host Latin Grammy Week in November. A week of top-level activities with at least eight major musical events will end with the awards ceremony. One week in which the most important Latin music stars will shine precisely in Andalusia,” said Moreno in a press conference.
Traditionally, the Latin Grammys, awarded since 2000, is held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cities like Miami or New York have hosted the awards in the past.
Dominican musician Juan Luis Guerra and Puerto Rican rapper Residente are tied for the most wins in Latin Grammy history with 28 trophies each, making them the most awarded men. Mexican singer Natalia Lafourcade is the most awarded woman with 14 wins, followed by Colombia’s own Shakira with 12 and Rosalía, who hails from just outside Barcelona, with 11.
The Latin Recording Academy revealed that Seville might be the city that will host the ceremony.
“Personally, I think that Sevilla has all of the prerequisites to host the awards show, especially due to its connection to the Latin world and because it has hosted big events in the past,” Moreno said.
He also said that celebrating the Grammys in Seville will be a historic moment for Andalusia and for culture.
