Wendy Williams Challenges Dementia Diagnosis

Television icon Wendy Williams has reportedly achieved a flawless score on a psychiatric capacity test, raising new questions about her controversial guardianship and frontotemporal dementia diagnosis.

According to TMZ, the former daytime talk show host visited Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City on Monday, where a psychiatrist conducted a comprehensive evaluation to assess her mental alertness and orientation. Williams answered all ten questions correctly, scoring a perfect 10 out of 10.

The test results starkly contrast the claims made by her court-appointed guardian, who insists that Williams’ condition is deteriorating. The guardian recently filed legal documents supporting this assertion, despite Williams' continued pushback against her dementia diagnosis.

Williams, 60, has long contested the guardianship arrangement that has stripped her of control over her finances and personal life. The former Wendy Williams Show host revealed that she often feels trapped within the memory care unit where she currently resides.

“I am not cognitively impaired, but I feel like I am in prison,” Williams stated in January. “I’m in this place with people who are in their 90s, 80s, and 70s. These people don’t remember anything. I am clearly not like them.”

The talk show legend expressed frustration over her restricted access to the facility's amenities, which reportedly include a spa, workout room, and outdoor terraces. Williams claims she is only allowed to leave the fifth-floor memory unit with special permission.

Williams’ recent psychiatric evaluation could serve as a turning point in her legal battle. Sources indicate that the results of the capacity test will be sent to the judge overseeing her guardianship case.

In her recent pre-taped interview with The View, Williams candidly discussed her experience, emphasizing her mental clarity and desire for independence.

“I needed a breath of fresh air. I needed to see the doctor, so that’s why I went to the hospital,” she explained.

The timing of Williams’ psychiatric evaluation comes after she was reportedly denied permission to visit her father in Florida for his birthday. The judge reversed that decision only after the release of the TMZ documentary Saving Wendy, which shed light on her ongoing struggle.

Despite her claims of receiving “excellent medical care,” Williams continues to question why she has been placed in a facility designed for elderly patients with severe cognitive impairments.

“I’m 60… why am I here?” she questioned during her View interview.

With the results of the capacity test now in the hands of the court, many are left wondering:

Will this finally be the evidence Wendy Williams needs to regain her freedom?
