Taylor Swift announces new “Midnights” album!
The reason we haven’t heard from Taylor Swift in a while is because she’s been working on an album!
As the pop star was at the Video Music Awards accepting her award for video of the year for “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version),” starring Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien, she revealed that her upcoming tenth studio album titled, “Midnights,” will be released on October 21st.
“You guys, I’m just so proud of what we made, and I know that every second of this moment that we wouldn’t have been able to make this short film if it weren’t for you, the fans,” she told the audience while accepting the award.
Swift shared the title and cover of the 13-track album (Swift’s favorite number) on social media following the announcement, describing it as “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life”.
Fans are questioning whether the tracklist (which was revealed to be Track 1, Track 2, Track 3, etc.) will be revealed at a later date or will be kept the same. They have also noticed that the release date coincides with Kim Kardashian’s birthday as well as the release date for Carly Rae Jepsen's album The Loneliest Time. Whether Swift did this on purpose to overshadow Kim (who she has had contention with in the past) or Carly (who is signed with Scooter Braun) is still unknown, but one can definitely assume that they did play a factor.
“This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams,” she wrote. “The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching – hoping that just maybe when the clock strikes 12 … we’ll meet ourselves.”
“Midnights” will mark Swift’s third album (after evermore and folklore) created during the pandemic - five albums if you include the two recently re-released “Taylor’s versions” (Red (Taylor’s Version) and Fearless (Taylor’s Version)).
Swift will clearly have a difficult time narrowing songs for an upcoming tour now that she has four albums (including Midnights) that have yet to be toured.
“Midnights” will be out on October 21st!
