Pat Carroll, voice of “The Little Mermaid”’s Ursula, died at 95
The Emmy, Grammy, and Tony award winning icon, Pat Carroll, has sadly passed away at the age of 95.
Her daughter said Carroll died of pneumonia at her home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, on Saturday.
Carroll was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1927. Her family relocated to Los Angeles when she was 5 years old. Her first film role came in 1948 in “Hometown Girl” but she found popularity in television, in variety shows to be specific. She won an Emmy for her work on the sketch comedy series “Caesar’s Hour” in 1956, was a regular on “Make Room for Daddy” with Danny Thomas, a guest star on “The DuPont Show with June Allyson” and a variety show regular stopping by “The Danny Kaye Show,” “The Red Skelton Show” and “The Carol Burnett Show.”
Carroll’s voice is familiar to generations thanks to her role as villainous sea creature Ursula in Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.”
Carroll’s legendary acting career spanned across film, television and the stage.
Her successful one-woman show Gertrude Stein, Gertrude Stein, Gertrude Stein won several awards in the late 1970s; the recorded version also garnered her a Grammy in 1980.
Carroll is survived by her two daughters and a granddaughter.
