Chris Rock’s special receives backlash!

A year after the infamous incident at the 94th Academy Awards where Will Smith struck Chris Rock in the face onstage after the latter made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett, Rock addressed the assault in his live special “Selective Outrage” on Saturday night.

Smith slapped Rock during the Oscars ceremony after the comedian joked about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, having alopecia.

Rock spent the last eight minutes of his new Netflix special addressing the slap and joking about the Oscar-winning actor and his wife. Rock also discussed Will and Jada’s publicly rocky relationship leading up to the slap—namely the relationship Jada had with her son’s friend, rapper August Alsina, while she was separated from Will.

“I normally would not talk about this shit, but for some reason, these n***** put that shit on the internet,” the comedian said. “I have no idea why two talented people would do something that fucking low-down. We’ve all been cheated on. None of us have ever been interviewed by the person that cheated on us on television.”

Rock then pretended to be a TV journalist, parodying Jada’s online talk show, Red Table Talk, on which Jada and Will had a public, candid conversation in 2020. The comedian’s version ran as follows: “Hey, I was sucking somebody else’s dick—how did that make you feel?”

“Why the fuck would you do that shit?” Rock continued. “She hurt him way more than he hurt me.”

“I have rooted for Will Smith my whole life,” he went on to say. "I rooted for this motherfucker. Now I watch Emancipation just to see him get whooped. Got me rooting for massa. Hit him again, massa. Hit him again. You missed a spot.”

Chris received a lot of backlash following the special with many fans calling him petty and the jokes distasteful. Others have brought up Rock’s past actions, namely allowing White people to say the N-word in front of him.

How this pans out and what this means for Chris and the Smiths’ relationship is still unknown. What is known, however, is that everybody is tired of this topic and have moved on ages ago.

The 95th Academy Awards will take place on March 12th, 2023.
