Tove Lo delivers with latest single “No One Dies From Love”

Ever since her debut in 2014, Tove Lo’s consistency as an artist and a writer has been bewildering; she has yet to put out a record or project that is not unique to her or simply amazing.

No One Dies From Love was written alongside longtime collaborator Ludvig Söderberg (known as A Strut), who has worked with her on hits like Habits (Stay High) and Talking Body to Cool Girl to Bikini Porn.

The record is heartbreak dressed in glittering new wave disco. Over a Jazzercise drumbeat, Tove sings about being the first to die from love. The track is very reminiscent of fellow Scandinavian sad disco greats, like Robyn.

Tove, who has a great eye for creating perfect visuals (three of which have received a Grammy nomination for Best Music Video), has certainly exceeded herself. In the video, she unboxes a robot companion that she dances, plays tennis, and watches movies with. The video is then multiple shots of make-out sessions between Tove and the robot. It’s Ex Machina meets the sexual tension present in any Tove Lo music video. The creative video was filmed on location in Mexico City and was directed by the Brazilian duo Alaska.

In an Instagram post, Tove wrote that “[She] and [A Strut] wrote this song in January 2020. We spent 3 weeks by the ocean, talking, drinking, crying and writing … the only song we worked on was this one. I don’t think I have to say too much what it’s about. You’ll feel it”

And we certainly have.

Tove Lo’s consistency is impressive considering her eight-year career. She writes about heartbreak and love in a way that’s accessible to anyone but still only unique to her. From what we have already seen, her upcoming album is likely to fit perfectly into her already solid discography.
