Calvin Harris’ “Potions,” featuring Dua Lips & Young Thug: boring & lacks originality
Calvin Harris has released the first single from his highly anticipated sixth album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2.
The record features previous collaborators Dua Lipa, who was on the hit One Kiss, and Young Thug, who was on Heatstroke.
The track opens with an electric guitar solo which seems promising at first. The song then suddenly jumps into a disco-like beat which has now become signature to Dua as she sings on the song’s chorus: “Late night conversations, electric emotions, Sprinkled with a little bit of sex and it’s a potion.”
The song remains laid back throughout leaving you feeling like it is missing something. If anything Dua is the saving grace of this song as her vocals bounce off the beat perfectly. The mellow beat lacks power and originality as the production is extremely boring and reminiscent of tracks on his previous album. Still, the track could hold potential after a few listens.
The album, which still seems promising, is rumored to feature a superstar line-up from Jack Harlow, Charlie Puth, and Doja Cat to Anitta, Jade Thirlwall, and Snoop Dogg.
The album is expected to drop later this year.
