Sweeney is set to both executive produce and star in the upcoming Barbarella film, which was first announced to receive the remake in 2020.

The remake was announced with no details or descriptions, but the 1968 movie was directed by Roger Vadim and followed an astronaut from the 41st century who sets out to find and stop the evil scientist Durand Durand, whose Positronic Ray threatens to bring evil back into the galaxy. Sweeney will reportedly star as Barbarella, the role made famous by Jane Fonda. Despite the film not being a massive box office hit, it has since become a cult classic.

In 2020 the Forest estate announced plans for a new film, however, it remains in early development, with no director, producer, or writer currently attached.

This would mark the third movie collaboration between Sweeney and Sony. She’s also set to star opposite Dakota Johnson in Spider-Man spinoff Madame Web, as well as a film adaptation of author Madison Lawson’s dystopian murder novel The Registration.
