Jimbo’s Drag Circus: A Theatrical, Campy Spectacle of Clowning and Drag

Jimbo’s Drag Circus has become one of the most anticipated drag performances, combining elements of clowning, musical theater, and pure absurdist humor. A labor of love and years of creative development, Jimbo’s show features some of their most iconic characters, including Casper, the Bologna Clan, and the Bologna Ghost, alongside new, equally bizarre and hilarious creations.

Reflecting on the process of bringing Jimbo’s Drag Circus to life, Jimbo expressed sheer joy in its creation. “I had the best time coming up with the show. I’m a clown, but I also love theater, especially musical theater. It’s been a long-time dream of mine to put together a show that showcases characters that have resonated with my fans and made people laugh.” The goal? To present something truly unique, unexpected, and utterly hysterical.

Jimbo’s creative process is deeply rooted in an eclectic mix of influences. “I love Pee-wee Herman, Elvira, and Monty Python,” Jimbo explained. “There are so many references from my life that have made me laugh, and at the core of it, it’s really about making people laugh and creating a visual spectacle that draws them in.”

Beyond the laughter, Jimbo enjoys playing with themes of gender, sexuality, and taboos. “I love the idea of a peep show or a twisted striptease—taking something familiar and flipping it into something unexpected and hilarious.”

Not only does Jimbo perform, but they are also deeply involved in every aspect of production, from set design to music choices. This hands-on approach ensures that every element of the performance stays true to their artistic vision.

Jimbo’s Drag Circus is more than just a solo endeavor—it is a celebration of collaboration. Having started as a designer and performer in their local community, Jimbo was able to return to the people who helped shape their artistic journey. “It was amazing to go back to my friends and community and have them help me bring this dream to life. It was a culmination of years of collaboration, and seeing it executed at such a high level was incredibly rewarding.”

That spirit of collaboration extends into Jimbo’s ongoing projects. From working alongside fellow queens to creating new performances, Jimbo thrives on surrounding themselves with talented, creative individuals who help elevate their vision.

With deep roots in clowning—an art form practiced by both Jimbo’s aunt and brother—Jimbo views drag as an extension of that tradition. “Clowning is like a higher self, just as drag is. A lot of people do clowning in drag without even realizing it. There are so many ways to approach both art forms, and I love exploring their overlap.”

This experimental approach to drag stems from growing up in Victoria, a smaller, more insulated artistic community that encouraged risk-taking. “It felt safe to take risks and try new things. Nothing was always polished, and that’s where you really discover things about performance and yourself.”

Jimbo is excited for the upcoming "Mayhem Tour" by Lady Gaga, expressing their love for the iconic pop star. "Mother Monster is coming back, and I am so here for it!" Jimbo shared, eager to see what Gaga will bring to the stage. They're also looking forward to Beyoncé’s "Cowboy Carter" tour, an album that initially didn’t resonate but has since grown on them. " I'd love to see if I could try and catch Beyonce's Cowboy Carter.”

In addition to these megastars, Jimbo has been soaking in music from other artists to get ready for their Las Vegas show. They're currently listening to a lot of Kim Petras and "slut pop," while also vibing with Lola Young's latest album. "Lola Young’s album is incredible. I can't stop listening to it," Jimbo enthused, proving their ever-evolving taste in music continues to inspire their performances.

Jimbo’s rise to international fame has been anything but conventional. From competing on Canada’s Drag Race to UK vs. the World and ultimately winning RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars, Jimbo has had one of the most unique trajectories in Drag Race herstory.

Reflecting on this journey, Jimbo acknowledges the impact of experiencing Drag Race from multiple perspectives. “I love being part of the Drag Race universe. It’s amazing that there’s a global queer platform that unites an art form and a community. I feel like I have families all over the world now—from Canada to the UK—and I love that I get to pop up in different parts of the Drag Race ecosystem.”

That connection with fans extends far beyond the countries Jimbo has competed in. “I love knowing that my drag touches people worldwide, even in places like Lebanon and the Middle East. The reach of Drag Race and drag culture in general is incredible.”

As a master of character-driven performances, Jimbo has hinted at new impersonations in the future, including a potential Danny DeVito performance. “I love juxtaposition, and I originally wanted to do something where I transitioned from Danny DeVito to Shirley Temple. But sometimes, I overcomplicate things. Maybe I’ll bring Danny DeVito to life someday!”

Beyond impersonations, Jimbo’s future remains as exciting as ever. From hosting Werq the World as Joan Rivers soon to continuing the House of Jimbo brand, Jimbo is constantly expanding their artistic empire. “I’d love to do a House of Jimbo live show, something like Pee-wee’s Playhouse meets drag. A full-scale, theatrical residency is a dream I’m working on.”

Would Jimbo ever return to reality TV? “I’m down for anything! I love playing, being part of things, and working. I’m a workaholic, and I love film and television. I’d love to do more, but my schedule has been so full that it’s been tough to fit in. But who knows? There are definitely some potential things happening!”

With an ever-growing fanbase, Jimbo continues to push the boundaries of drag, clowning, and performance art. Whether through live shows, Drag Race appearances, or new creative projects, Jimbo is cementing their legacy as one of the most innovative and hilarious queens in the industry.
